What is difference between Cyber Crime and Cyber Attack?

Cyber Crime and Cyber Attack are related but not identical terms. According to the Colorado Technical University, cyber crime is:

- Criminal activity carried out on computers via the Internet, such as stealing data, money or passwords.

- Cyber attack is a broader term that refers to any malicious attempt to disrupt, damage or gain unauthorized access to a computer system or network.

Some examples of cyber crime are:

Phishing - where cybercriminals send fake emails or messages that look like they come from legitimate sources, and trick users into revealing their personal or financial information, or clicking on malicious links or attachments.

Ransomware - where cybercriminals encrypt the data or files of the victims and demand a ransom to restore them.

Identity theft - where cybercriminals steal the personal or financial information of the victims and use it for fraudulent purposes, such as opening accounts, applying for loans, or making purchases.

Romance scams - where cybercriminals create fake online profiles and relationships with the victims and ask them for money or gifts.

Some examples of cyber attack are:

- Denial-of-service (DoS) attack - where cybercriminals overwhelm a website or server with traffic or requests, making it slow down or crash.

- Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack - where cybercriminals use multiple compromised devices or networks to launch a coordinated DoS attack.

- Malware attack - where cybercriminals infect computers or networks with malicious software that can damage, delete, or steal data, or take control of the devices.

- Cyber espionage - where cybercriminals hack into government or corporate networks or systems and steal confidential or sensitive data for political, economic, or military advantage.

Cyber crime and cyber attack can affect individuals, businesses, organizations, and governments. They can cause financial losses, reputational damage, legal consequences, emotional distress, and physical harm. Cyber crime and cyber attack are global problems that require international cooperation and coordination to prevent and combat.
